|a The costs of damages caused by extreme weather events, among which floods are a major category, are showing a rapid upward trend, both globally and in Europe. Scope and extremity of flood episodes point to the need to build a comprehensive proposal including the completion of flood protection measures in areas exposed to flood risk. The aim of flood risk management is to present flood protection measures. This book presents the state of the art of essential knowledge on methods and tools of flood risk assessment and management to young researchers, academics, lecturers and water management practitioners. This book is dedicated to flood damage assessment focused on social, economic and environmental damages management. Its objectives are to develop a general methodology for flood risk assessment and to present a choice of effective flood protection methods according the objectives of flood risk management.
